Manchester City are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign highly rated midfielder Isco from Malaga, according to the Daily Express.

The 21-year-old Spaniard is one of the most sought-after talents in world football after his displays over the last couple of seasons with Malaga, and has been linked with moves away from the club for most of the year.

City were known to be admirers and are now reported to have activated the £27million buy out clause in his contract, bringing him closer to a move to the Etihad Stadium.

This will come as a blow to rivals Chelsea, who were also chasing him as a long-term replacement for Frank Lampard, who could leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Isco could be followed to City by Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini, who is widely tipped to be replacing Roberto Mancini after a disappointing season for the Italian.

City failed to retain their Premier League title and endured a shock defeat in the FA Cup final to underdogs Wigan Athletic.

However, the double swoop of Isco and Pellegrini would surely go a big way to improving the club’s fortunes next season.
