Manchester United are hoping that Real Madrid are successful in their attempts to sign Tottenham’s Gareth Bale according to The Sun.

The Old Trafford club are reportedly keen to see the Welsh star move to the Bernabeu this summer as they believe it would massively increase their chances of signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s future has been subject to constant speculation over the last season after he revealed he felt underappreciated in the Spanish capital.

Ronaldo believes his pay packet should ensure he is up there with the very highest paid players in the world and also feels he suffered unfair criticism at times last season.

Following Real Madrid’s visit to Old Trafford for their Champions League last sixteen game, Ronaldo revealed he was overwhelmed by the reception he was given, sparking speculation that he could be tempted to return to Old Trafford.

United will be hoping to secure a deal by offering a transfer fee in the region of £60 million, as well as involving a player in the deal such as Chicharito Hernandez or Nani.

Real boss Florentino Perez is keen to hold on Ronaldo though and recently expressed his belief that the Portuguese star will retire at the club.
