Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Arsenal are close to completing a mega-bucks deal for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain according to The Daily Mail.

It is being suggested that the Gunners are ready to part with almost £50 million in order to secure the Argentine’s services.

That would mark a turning point in the Gunners’ transfer policy and would propel them right back alongside the Premier League’s biggest spenders.

And it appears they may not be finished yet after the club’s billionaire shareholder Alisher Usmanov urged Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to splash the cash on Wayne Rooney to partner Higuain.

Rooney is thought to be unhappy at Manchester United and could be available for as little as £30 million.

The fact that the club are even being linked to players of Rooney and Higuain’s calibre will be pleasing to Arsenal fans, who have gotten used to signing cut-price signings while the club paid off the loan they took out to build the Emirates Stadium.

The last few days has confirmed to the football world that there has been a shift in thinking in the Arsenal board room.

Higuain will become Arsenal’s new record signing, comfortably eclipsing the previous record set by the purchase of Andre Arshavin for £15 million.
