Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready step-up his pursuit of top level summer signings and has been given the go ahead to make a significant offer for Man United pair Wayne Rooney and Nani.

CaughtOffside understands that Wenger’s interest in England striker Wayne Rooney is entirely genuine and the North London club’s board are keen to make a concrete offer for the 27 year old as a statement of intent from a side who are looking to re-assert themselves on the Premier League and European stage after a lengthy lean patch.

Wenger has publicly spoken of his interest in the Old Trafford star and if showdown talks between Rooney and incoming boss David Moyes fail to resolve the relationship between Man United and their fourth highest goal-scorer of all time then the Arsenal manager will register an opening bid in the region of £30m and has been given enough encouragement from the player’s representatives to suggest that the former Everton man would be open to discussing personal terms with the Gunners.

Wenger has already been told that he can adjust the club’s wage ceiling to accommodate the wage expectations of new signings and is able therefore to offer Wayne Rooney as much as £200k a week, almost double the club’s current top earners with the likes of Theo Walcott and Lukas Podoslki currently being paid around £110k a week.

Arsene Wenger is also looking to re-open his push for Portuguese winger Nani, who looks almost certain to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Man United are said to want at least £8.5m for the experienced wide-man and Wenger is ready to meet the Premier League title holder’s price-tag as he pushes to further improve his attacking options.

Though the 26 year old has become something of a bit-part player at Man United Wenger feels that the chance to bring in a player of Nani’s quality for a cut-price deal is too tempting to pass up.

Arsene Wenger has a number of wide attacking options but believes that Nani would be a definite improvement on many of those in his current Arsenal squad that fill the positions the Man United man excels in. To this end the Emirates Stadium boss is looking to make room for a number of attacking options and is in the process of finding willing buyers for a number of players he is looking to offload this summer.

Nicklas Bendtner, Park Chu-Young, Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho are all set to leave Arsenal this summer as Arsene Wenger streamlines his squad and opts for quality over quantity, which in turn gives him the ability to reduce his overall wage bill by reducing numbers whilst also therefore being able to offer his pivotal players a higher salary.
