Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons has distanced himself from a move to Arsenal and Napoli this summer by declaring his intent to stay with the French club, Sky Sports reports.

Reports in Italy had emerged to hint that Lyon would be willing to let the midfield ace join Napoli in a bid to raise funds. However, the 24-year-old has insisted that his intention was always to remain at Lyon after playing down talk of a switch to Arsenal and now he is having to do the same again.

Gonalons told Radio RMC: “The situation is clear. I’ll stay in Lyon this year because I have to try and learn many things. I want to win with Lyon.

“I have been approached and it’s always nice to know that big European clubs are following me, but I understand that the club want to keep me.

“That is good news because it shows that they have big faith in me.”

Gonalons frist broke into the Lyon side back in 2009 and has steadily become more and more integral to the club’s system. Since his debut he’s gone on to make 148 appearances, scoring eight goals. He is also now starting to establish himself in the French national side too with six caps.
