Liverpool are poised to complete the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa according to the Daily Star.

This source claims that a deal is ‘all but done’ after the Liverpool’s bid triggered Costa’s release clause and the two sides are set to meet to complete the move tomorrow.

Atletico Madrid sold Radamel Falcao to AS Monaco and this may well have led Costa to believe he was set for a more prominent role at the Vicente Calderon but Diego Simeone then opted to sign experienced Barcelona forward David Villa which may well have left the Brazilian international to consider his future at the La Liga club.

The move will apparently pave the way for Luis Suarez’s exit but only once the Merseyside club receive a bid they are happy with, refusing to allow the Uruguayan to leave ‘on the cheap’.

Costa netted 20 goals in all competitions last term, being a key performer in the Los Rojiblancos Copa del Rey triumph.

Brendan Rodgers may feel that the inclusion of the powerful Atletico Madrid man, alongside his current complement of striking options; Daniel Sturridge, Fabio Borini, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas, offers him enough firepower to be able to cope with the potential loss of Suarez.
