Rafael Benitez eyes Bayern Munich midfielder.
Napoli manager Rafael Benitez will look to snap up Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo from under the noses of Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail.
The Brazilian has been widely expected to be nearing a move to the Emirates Stadium for around £15million, though the Serie A side will be hoping they still have a chance to add him to their squad this summer.
Gustavo has found first-team opportunities limited at the Allianz Arena due to some fierce competition for places in the treble winners’ star-studded squad, but would be seen as an excellent addition for Arsenal.
The Gunners have linked several times with a new defensive midfielder since the departure of Alex Song last summer, with Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey often left to fill that void last season.
The likes of Mohamed Diame and Marouane Fellaini are said to have been on Arsene Wenger’s radar, though all signs now point to Gustavo becoming an Arsenal player later this week, with an announcement on his future expected later today.
Napoli have also been chasing defensive midfielders, and have been linked with former Benitez favourites in Javier Mascherano and Lucas Leiva.
