Les Bleus challenge is preparation for Brazil

After recently announcing a friendly against World Cup Hosts Brazil, the Socceroos have another high profile game lined up just weeks afterwards.

The Aussies will travel to the Stadio Garrincha on September 6th, before facing the French National team at the Parc Des Princes on October 11th in what will be a tough four weeks for Osieck’s men.

Speaking to Football Australia, Head Coach Holger Osieck, believes these are the sort of matches his side need to play if they are to continue improving.

“We need to play top quality international opponents as we have to get challenged on this level.

This will be another great experience for our team and myself, as it gives me a good indication where we stand right now compared to the top countries in the world and what our focus has to be to raise our standard.

In terms of FIFA France are ranked 23 places above Australia. Honours are even in terms of games played between the two sides, in the 3 encounters each side has won 1-0 once, the other a 1-1 draw in a friendly game in 2001.

The sides haven’t met for 11 years, David Trezeguet scored the equaliser when the teams last crossed swords at the MCG.
