Blues willing to offer big wages to Anzhi striker.
Chelsea are willing to offer Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o a salary of £4million a year to move to Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Express.
The Cameroon international has earned a reputation as one of the world’s best strikers over the last ten years, and even at the age of 32, is seen as a decent alternative to Wayne Rooney for Chelsea.
With Manchester United refusing to budge on the unsettled England international, Chelsea have been forced to turn their attentions elsewhere, and have been strongly linked with signing Eto’o on a cut-price deal from Russian side Anzhi, who may let him leave for as little as £6million due to financial difficulties.
Eto’o's wages, however, have been a potential stumbling block, though Jose Mourinho is keen to get hold of the striker whom he worked with to great success at former club Inter Milan, where they won the treble together in the 2009/10 season.
The former Barcelona star has hinted that he would welcome the chance to work with Mourinho again, and that could see him pick Chelsea over his former club Inter, who are also said to be chasing him this summer.
