La Liga side hope to bring in Stamford Bridge star on season long loan deal.
Atletico Madrid are plannning an ambitious move to sign Chelsea star Juan Mata on a loan deal according to AS.
There has been much speculation as to what part the 25 year old would play under returning boss Jose Mourinho and the arrival of Willian from Anzhi has merely served to further confuse the issue.
Mata has been a massive success since moving to Stamford Bridge two years ago but started the Premier League opener against Hull City from the bench and managed just over an hour in Chelsea’s win over Aston Villa before he himself was subbed.
Atletico Madrid will struggle to pay Mata’s reported €4m a year wage packet but will look to come to an arrangement with the West London club who they clearly have a good relationship with given they have loaned out Belgian keeper Thibaut Courtois to the Vicente Calderon side for a third successive season.
Mata has racked up 33 Premier League assists in his two seasons at Chelsea and has also scored 32 goals in that period and is a player that has been pivotal to the club’s successful capture of the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup crowns collected over the past two terms.
