Liverpool have officially completed the signing of Portuguese youngster Tiago Ilori in a deal thought to be worth £8m.

The 20 year old defender becomes the sixth signing of the summer by Brendan Rodgers and was perhaps sped through following the injuries suffered by Kolo Toure and Sebastian Coates.

Ilori is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football and represented his country at the recent Under 20 World Cup in Turkey this summer.

The London born defender stated of the move;

“It feels great being a Liverpool player – coming to the Premier League has always been a dream for me.

“I’m going to try and achieve everything I can. I want to play as much as possible and we’ll see what the future holds. I will give my all and try my best to help the team.”

“I know the history of the club and the Premier League is the best league in the world, in my opinion,” said Ilori.

“Liverpool, have a great team and I think it’s the place for me to be at the moment.

“I know there have been some great teams here in the past and the club has won a lot of trophies and I want to be a part of it.”

Liverpool have kept clean sheets in all their first three Premier League matches of the season but Rodgers no doubt felt the need to bring in alternatives at the back and the signing of the Sporting Lisbon man very much adheres to the Merseyside club’s youthful transfer policy.

Rodgers has already signed Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Kolo Toure and Aly Cissokho.
