Arsenal and Inter Milan could be set to compete for the signing of Genoa and Croatia youngster Sime Vrsaljko this January, according to Forza Italian Football.

The 21-year-old right-back looks a terrific prospect after impressing in Serie A with Genoa, and could be eyed up by Arsene Wenger as a possible replacement for Bacary Sagna, whose future at the Emirates Stadium is in some doubt.

The 30-year-old Frenchman is stalling on signing a new contract with the Gunners and looks increasingly likely to leave the club at the end of the season, with both PSG and Monaco interested in bringing the former Auxerre man back to Ligue 1.

However, Arsenal will have Inter to compete with for the signing of Vrsaljko, who is valued by his club at around £8.4m.

The strong full-back started his career with Dynamo Zagreb and has four caps for the senior Croatian national team, and looks like he would be a good long-term signing for Arsenal if they could pull it off.

Gunners boss Wenger is known for his eye for young talent, and is likely to continue to monitor Vrsaljko from now until the opening of the transfer window in January.
