Paris Saint Germain were plotting to steal young Manchester United attacking midfielder Adnan Januzaj before he put pen-to-paper on a new five year deal with the Premier League champions, the Daily Express reports.

The Belgian-born starlet would have been able to talk to and sign a pre contract agreement with other clubs during the January transfer window as his deal at Old Trafford expired at the end of the season, but the Red Devils managed to convince him to pledge the next five years to the club to prevent that.

The 18-year-old has featured regularly in David Moyes’ early season plans, but the French big spenders had been hoping to lure him away to the Parc des Princes.

Reports in France have suggested that the Parisian giants were already in contact with the players agent trying to convince him that his client’s future lay on the other side of the English channel after they realised that his contract expired at the end of the season.

However, their interest got back to the Manchester club’s hierarchy, who quickly put together a bumper new deal in order to keep him in the Northwest.
