Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has backed Gareth Bale to come good in La Liga after an initial struggle following his £85m move to Real Madrid from Tottenham this summer, Sky Sports reports.

The Welsh winger was a top transfer target for the Spanish giants throughout much of the summer, and eventually became the most expensive player of all time when he switched White Hart Lane for the Bernabeu.

The Bale saga was one of the biggest stories of the summer, but the 24-year-old has now failed to make much of an impression in his first few games with his new club, despite scoring on his debut in a 2-2 draw with Villareal.

Injuries have hindered his progress, and he was subbed off early in Real’s 2-1 Clasico defeat to rivals Barcelona, coming in for more criticism from the Spanish press.

Fabregas knows Bale well from their time together in the Premier League, and the former Arsenal man believes there is a lot of pressure with arriving with such a big price tag, but says he feels Bale is a good enough player to adjust.

The Spaniard added that La Liga is harder to play in than the English top flight, saying: “He’s got a lot of pressure. One hundred million euros is massive, but I think great players are great players. He will overcome this, I’m sure he will.

“I haven’t spoken to him so I don’t know how he feels. You need to adapt when you come to this kind of league.

“It is completely different to the Premier League. You don’t get many spaces when you get the ball.

“Tactically this league is much better than the English one, so he needs time.”
