Chelsea are leading the race to sign in-demand young Schalke 04 midfield player Julian Draxler at the end of this season, according to reports in the Mail on Sunday.

The coveted Germany international is currently one of the most sought-after players on the Continent after shining for his club both at home in the Bundesliga, as well as in the Uefa Champions League as well, for the previous two years.
And now if stories in the German press are to be believed, then four Premier League giants are all thought to be lining up to lure the 20-year-old to the English top flight next summer, the west London club as well as the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City too.
However, it is also believed that it is the Uefa Europa League holders who are in the driving seat at present to land Draxler come the climax to this campaign owing to the fact that the Blues are prepared to offer highly rated Belgium international midfield player Kevin de Bruyne in part exchange for the German.
But Chelsea will not be able to sign Draxler when the winter transfer window opens again for business in January though after his club made it through to the knockout phase of the Champions League last week.
