The 26 year old moved from Bayern Munich to Wolfsburg in the summer but was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and even though Arsene Wenger subsequently dealt with his side’s lack of a steely midfielder by re-signing Mathieu Flamini the Gunners boss may well still be keen on bringing in the Brazilian international.

Gustavo is clearly open to leaving Wolfsburg though appears most keen on a move to Barcelona, stating;

“It’s always good to have your name linked to Barcelona,” He told Globo Esporte.

“This is the third time there has been interest from them.

“I have a long contract which includes a buyout fee, and if anyone wants to pay that, they can sign me.”

The tough tackler knows that a high profile move in January will help him to forge a more prominent role in Felipe Scolari’s 2014 World Cup finals squad and Wenger could well do with an extra defensive midfielder to offer protection to his creative talents.
