The 25 year old Spanish international reacted badly to being hauled off in the 53rd minute against Southampton and has seemingly left Mourinho ready to axe Mata from his squad this month.

The fact that replacement Oscar provided an assist and scored a goal after coming on as a sub for Mata has perhaps left Mourinho all the more convinced he can afford to cash in on Mata.

Mata hasn’t managed to hit the heights achieved in his first two seasons at Chelsea, during which he won the club’s Player of the Year award on both occasions, and the pint sized attacking midfielder has started 11 of Chelsea’s 20 Premier League fixtures but as well as having provided just two assists in that period he has also failed to score a single goal.

Also perhaps tellingly of the 11 games Mata has started he’s been subbed on nine occasions so one can see how the fan favourite would become angered by the seeming lack of faith in his abilities.

Juan Mata’s frustrations have perhaps now reached fever pitch and the Chelsea man may well be considering his options, no doubt acutely aware that he needs regular first team football to retain a prominent role in Vicente del Bosque’s 2014 World Cup finals squad.

Mourinho appears to be more willing to use Eden Hazard and Oscar as his main creative attackers and the pair have both been far more consistent this term than Juan Mata and should a big money offer come in for the former Valencia man then perhaps it would be accepted.
