Arsenal are to push on with efforts to land Arsene Wenger’s two top January transfer window targets with the North London club looking to sign Schalke’s Julian Draxler and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

CaughtOffside understands that the Gunners boss has been given the green light to launch sizable bids for both youngsters as Arsenal look to bring to an end a lengthy silverware drought and Wenger will look to complete both deals by the end of the week if at all possible.

Arsenal are ready to trigger the €45m (£37.4m) release clause written into Draxler’s Schalke contract as the Premier League leaders prepare to once again show their spending power having smashes their club record transfer fee to bring in Mesut Ozil last summer.

The 20 year old attacking midfielder is Wenger’s number one transfer target and a player the North London club wants to bring in this month to avoid entering a bidding war for the player in the summer.

Arsenal will change their approach in relation to their pursuit of Bernabeu youngster Morata, where a loan deal has not looked appealing to the Spanish giants.

Wenger will table an opening offer of €15m (£12m) for the 21 year old striker and will hope that the promise of a better chance of securing regular first team football will act as a motivating factor to push the youngster to demand a move to join the English top tier.

Though Morata is held in high regard by Real Madrid the distinct lack of first team options will surely be a concern to the Spanish Under 21 international, who has started just one La Liga fixture this season.

Moves for Morata and Draxler adhere to Arsenal’s youthful transfer policy and would also act as something of a statement of intent as Arsene Wenger seeks to both strengthen his squad in the short term whilst also planning for the future.
