The Daily Telegraph claim that the 20 year old German international wants to secure a £36m move to the North London club who appear to be closing in on the long term target.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has long been linked with a move to Draxler and it seems that a move to bring in the talented starlet is drawing to a conclusion with less than a week of the January transfer window left.

Draxler is closing on a return to fitness following an ankle tendon injury and no doubt Wenger is keen to seal a deal before any other prospective suitors get their wallets out.

Having seen Man United sign Juan Mata and Chelsea close in on Mohamed Salah, having already brought in Serbian Nemanja Matic, Wenger may feel it time to strengthen this squad to aid their push for Premier League honours.

Though Draxler is more than six months shy of his 21st birthday the attack minded midfielder has already racked up 133 appearances for Schalke, scoring 26 goals in the process, and has ten German national team caps to his name.

Whilst clearly Arsenal have a wealth of creative midfielders on their books the fact that Tomas Rosicky is out of contract in the summer and the likes of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey have suffered with consistent injury problems could be the reason behind Wenger’s intention to sign Draxler, who could clearly be a long term prospect the French boss is keen to build his side around.
