Wenger says he has “given his word” to the board that he is staying after his contract expires at the end of the season, though he has now caused confusion amongst the Arsenal faithful with his recent comments claiming that he will see out the season before making a final decision.

“I told you many times my commitment is not questionable and I have given my word. I always respect my word – it’s as simple as that. I have given my word. My word is my word,” said Wenger.

When asked whether he would definitely be staying he responded: “Yes….unless I decide otherwise.

“I have told you many times we have had no time to sit down and do it. Nothing, not going anywhere, don’t worry for that.

“But I want to have a feeling coming out of the season that that I have done the maximum for the club.”

The 64-year-old has been offered a deal but has yet to sign it. It is thought that it is only a two-year contract as the club are beginning preparations for life without him.
