Arsenal Could Sign Legendary Real Madrid Goalkeeper For Nothing This Summer

A move to the Emirates or the Etihad beckons for Casillas.

Arsenal or Manchester City could land legendary Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas on a free transfer this summer – if they agree to pick up his €7m-a-season wages.

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to allow their captain to leave the Santiago Bernabeu for nothing, reports Spanish media outlet Voz Populi.

The 32-year-old has been with Real his entire career, making nearly 700 senior appearances for the club.

But Casillas fell out of first team favour under former Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho, who preferred Diego Lopez between the sticks, and the Spain captain has been unable to regain his place under Mourinho’s successor Carlo Ancelotti.

There have also been rumours of a dressing room split at Real, with a senior source consistently leaking stories to the press.

Given Casillas’ partner, Sara Carbonero, is a journalist, the goalkeeper is the prime suspect.

City is the most likely destination for the World Cup winner, although Arsenal are also in the running however, and Casillas and Carbonero are both thought to favour a move to London.
