Check in to Liverpool vs Manchester City

Man City are set to complete a £41m deal to sign FC Porto duo Eliaqium Mangala and Fernando according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Etihad Stadium side’s director of football Txiki Begiristain is understood to be in negotations with the Primeira Liga side, who are famed for their transfer model, which entails bringing in lesser known talents before selling them for massive fees.

The likes of Hulk, Joao Moutinho, James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao have followed this path of late and it’s no surprise that Man City are once again ready to spend big to further improve their squad.

Manuel Pellegrini is keen to bring in 23 year old French international Mangala with Joleon Lescott set to leave Man City in the summer and question marks hanging over veteran Martin Demichelis, who has dropped a few clangers since joining the Premier League club.

Man City will also look to bring in holding midfielder Fernando, though it’s not instantly obvious why Pellegrini would need another player in this department.

Pellegrini has chiefly used Yaya Toure and Fernandinho as his central midfield pairing and has the likes of Javi Garcia and Jack Rodwell as back-up options.

That said Man City are set to see Gareth Barry leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.
