Rumours that Van Gaal has already agreed to take over the role after this summer’s World Cup have continued to persist and RVP is now keen on working with his national team boss at club level as he has a considerably better relationship with him that he did with Moyes.

The 30-year-old has been photographed sat alongside Van Gaal at a number of Dutch league matches while he has been rehabilitating in his home country from a knee injury that is not expected to stop him from featuring in Brazil.

The pair also have the same agent, Kees Vos, who is rumoured to be a key figure in helping Van Gaal land the job in the first place.

Van Persie had been said to be mulling over a move away from the Premier League at the end of the season after a second disappointing campaign with the club had left him disillusioned with life at Old Trafford.

However, the news that Van Gaal could be taking over has forced him to change his mind in favour of staying where he is.
