The Daily Star claim that Paul Lambert will look to bring in Man City defender Joleon Lescott and Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby but one imagines such moves will be off the table if the Scot fails to keep Aston Villa in the top flight.

A run of five defeats in six Premier League fixtures has left the Villa Park outfit three points clear of the drop-zone though a game in hand on those in the bottom three will help.

Experienced England man Lescott is out of contract in the summer and Aston Villa will hope the 31 year old reduces his £90k a week wage demands enough for a viable offer to be made for his services.

German international Holtby seems surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and has been a moderate success at Fulham but a summer move from White Hart Lane to Craven Cottage seems unlikely with Felix Magath’s side likely to suffer relegation and therefore a move to Aston Villa could become an option though a return to the Bundesliga seems far more likely.
