The 24-year-old has become one of Brendan Rodgers’ prime targets ahead of what will be a busy summer for the Reds as they look to rebuild the squad ahead of their return to the Champions League next season.

Rojo joins the likes of Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Steven Caulker and Yevhen Konoplyanka, who are all heavily linked with the Anfield giants.

However, Rojo will come at a price. With two years remaining on his current deal in the Portuguese capital he has a €30m release clause installed to help ward off potential suitors, but Rodgers has been told that he has the funds to manoeuvre in the transfer market and will be backed in his chase of the Argentine.

Rojo has been in sparkling form for Sporting this season, making 24 appearances and scoring four goals in the process.

Having perviously played for Estudiantes and Spartak Moscow, the 20-cap international is likely to head to South America for Argentina’s World Cup campaign.
