Check in to Spain vs Netherlands

Angry Atletico Madrid fans have come up with a petition to stop the club from signing goal shy Tottenham Hotspur striker Roberto Soldado this summer as they don’t want to be giving chances to players looking to resurrect their careers, according to the Daily Mirror.

The £26m striker has just endured a nightmare spell with the north London outfit, with only two of his meagre six goals coming from open play.

He has been largely tipped to make a quick return to Spain this summer, but Atletico fans are eager to ensure that he will not be linking up with them.

There had been some initial interest from Italian side Inter Milan, but the former Valencia man could end up staying with Spurs as new boss Mauricio Pochettino looks to help him rediscover his goalscoring touch.

The Spanish champions are thought to be interested in landing his signature after news emerged that David Villa would be joining MLS franchise New York City FC.

Atletico fans, however, have opposed the move starting an online campaign with the hashtag ‘UnAtletiSinSoldado’ – translated as ‘An Atletico Madrid Without Soldado’.

They aren’t thought to be keen on signing players that are actively looking to drop their wages to join them.
