The Gunners start their summer of spending in typically modest fashion.

Greek teenager Elias Chatzitheodoridis has become Arsenal FC’s first summer signing, according to The Metro.

The 17-year-old recently enjoyed a trial spell at the Gunners and it seems as though he has done enough to convince the North London club to give him a contract.

Chatzitheodoridis, who is a left-back, has already played against Real Madrid’s youth team for Arsenal.

Reports in Spain claim that he has put pen to paper on a two-year contract at the Emirates Stadium, despite attracting interest from a host of other top European clubs.

Arsenal have a junior academy in Greece and this allowed them to monitor the progress of Chatzitheodoridis without uprooting him and his family.

Prior to coming to London to train with Arsenal, Chatzitheodoridis played for local club Mas Kallitheakos.

The youngster’s arrival is unlikely to be the last of Arsenal’s summer business.

Manager Arsene Wenger is expected to be busy in the transfer market.

Landing a top striker and a replacement for outgoing right-back Bacary Sagna are believed to be Wenger’s main priorities.

Sagna will be out of contract in the coming weeks and is therefore set to become a free agent.
