Wolfsburg Tell Chelsea They Won’t Be Held To Ransom For Romelu Lukaku

Bundesliga side Wolfsburg have told Chelsea that they will not be held to ransom over the transfer of want away striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to the Daily Star.

Lukaku admitted last week that he was ready to quit Chelsea on a permanent basis, with Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa set to complete a £32m switch to Stamford Bridge having successful undergone a medical and agreed personal terms.

The Blues had offered the Belgian international a new deal to stay at the club last month, but he has insisted that he is ready to move on after spending the previous two campaigns out on loan with both West Bromwich Albion and Everton.

The 21-year-old is impressing clubs all over Europe and Wolfsburg are just the latest side to show an interest in his services.

But the club’s Sporting Director, Klaus Allofs, has insisted that they will not pay over the odds to bring the striker to the club this summer.

“If the player [Lukaku] is getting cheaper, maybe this affair is picking up pace,” he said.

“But even then we won’t be the only club chasing the player’s signature.

“Actually we are looking at top-class strikers and we do not have any pressure. We are patiently waiting for the right moment.

“There will be some movement in all of this after FIFA World Cup tournament.”
