Brendan Rodgers will look to beat the likes of AS Monaco and Arsenal in pursuit of the 24 year old with the Anfield side to offer more than Sporting Lisbon’s £12m asking price.

The versatile performer, who can play at left-back and in a central defensive role, looks likely to leave his Primeira Liga side, especially if the Portuguese outfit receives more than the triple the £3.5m they paid Spartak Moscow for the player back in 2012.

Rodgers could well use defensive reinforcements with his side guilty of conceding far too many goals during last season’s Premier League title push.

Rojo could be a very able replacement for current first choice left-back, Jose Enrique, who missed most of 2013/14 through injury or he could be considered a good centre-back partner for Martin Skrtel.

Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Agger all failed to consistently impress alongside the rock solid Slovakian so Rojo may be seen as an option in that regard.

Rojo impressed during Argentina’s opening World Cup win over Bosnia.
