The Red Devils ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool in pursuit of Barkley.

Manchester United are rumoured to be closing in on the signing of 20-year old Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley, reports the Daily Star.

The youngster has long been tracked by the Red Devils, who are now ready to pull the trigger and offer a big sum to prise him away from Goodison Park.

The likes of Liverpool and Chelsea are also believed to be in the hunt for England’s young sensation, who has been labeled by his Everton boss Roberto Martinez as the biggest English talent of recent times.

Martinez though thinks that Barkley is not yet the finished product, and does not want to sell him to any of the Premier League’s bigwigs knocking on the door for him.

“I would not sell even if we got a huge bid. It would be wrong for him,” the Spaniard said.

“Ross is a phenomenal talent, probably the best English talent I have ever seen, but he is not the finished article yet and you need to be very careful.”

Martinez backed up his intentions by rejecting a reported £38 million offer from arch rivals Liverpool, and one will have to wait and see whether the Red Devils have anything more lucrative to offer to the Toffees for the prized asset.
