Reports in Italy have suggested that the San Siro outfit are keen to bring the Gunners striker to the club after being impressed with his form whilst on loan at Olympiakos last season, where he bagged an impressive goal against Manchester United in the Champions League.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, however, has already stated his intention to give Campbell a chance at the Emirates next season.

“He will definitely come back to us for pre-season,’ the Arsenal manager said earlier this week. ‘He is maturing well,” he said.

The 21-year-old also impressed in Costa Rica’s opening World Cup clash with Uruguay at the weekend and the Italians have identified him as an alternative to Balotelli, and will keep an eye on him in Friday’s game against Italy.

However, it is thought that a cut price deal for Balotelli could appeal to Wenger as it would free up extra funds for him to bolster the squad elsewhere.
