Wenger will discuss a potential move for the 26 year old Fiorentina man with his agent Alessandro Lucci but is up against both Barcelona and Bayern Munich in pursuit of the talented wide-man, who can play on either flank and has dabbled at full-back.

Fiorentina will demand a hefty €40m (£32m) for the former Udinese man, who had an excellent campaign last term, netting 15 goals in all competitions and providing a host of assists before impressing in Colombia’s opening two World Cup encounters.

Wenger would do well to bring in alternative wide attacking options given that both Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott both missed massive chunks of the last campaign through injury.

Pint-sized Spaniard Santi Cazorla was disappointing his second season at the Emirates Stadium and this too could prove motivation for a summer addition to boost the ranks.

Pep Guardiola has already made a contract offer to Cuadrado so Wenger may have to speed things up if he is to stand any chance of signing the south American.
