Man United are the latest side to take an interest in signing in-form Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez according to The Sun.

The Barcelona star could well be offloaded by new boss Luis Enrique though will demand that the former Udinese man’s £40m release clause is triggered to do so.

Last term was Sanchez’s most successful of three he has spent at the Catalan giants, the adaptable attacker netting 19 goals in 27 La Liga starts, and the 25 year old has impressed many with his displays at the World Cup during which he has netted against both Australia and Brazil.

Interest in Sanchez may well be due to Louis van Gaal having concerns about a number of his wide attacking options with the likes of Nani, Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia all failing to impress last term.

Man United have already forked out £62m to bring in Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw from Athletic Bilbao and Southampton respectively and there are no signs that van Gaal’s spending spree is set to end anytime soon.

The Old Trafford side’s owners will be keen to erase the memory of the disastrous campaign presided over by former boss David Moyes and appear willing to back van Gaal with hefty sums to help strengthen his Man United squad.
