Swansea City Hope For Deal To Sign Celtic Centre Back

Swansea City are looking to seal a deal for centre back Virgil van Dijk from Celtic.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk is set to bolster his side’s defence with the signing of Celtic centre back Virgil van Dijk, who could join for around £6 million according to the Mail.

The report suggests that van Dijk would arrive at the Liberty Stadium to replace Chico Flores, the defender who had a training ground bust-up with Monk last season and who the Mail suggest that the Swans would be willing to offload this summer along with fellow Spaniard Michu, the club’s top scorer from the 2012/13 season.

Van Dijk would arrive as partner to captain Ashley Williams, who signed a new four-year deal with the club recently, taking his stay in South Wales well into his thirties.

The 22 year-old has emerged as a centre-back with huge amounts of potential on account of his performances for Celtic in his first season in the SPL, having joined from Eredivisie side FC Groningen just twelve months ago.

Selling van Dijk to Swansea would mean that he became the latest Celtic player to be plucked from obscurity and sold on for an impressive fee, following the likes of Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, who they signed from Belgian club Beerschot before selling him on for a huge fee.
