The experienced Villa Park skipper is a player boss Paul Lambert doesn’t want to lose but there may be a chance the 29 year old could be lured away by a side that can offer the former Feyenoord man the possibility of Champions League action.

The powerful centre-back has been a consistent performer since move to the Premier League back in August 2012 and is now the subject of interest from the likes of Lazio, Southampton and Juventus but Arsene Wenger’s pursuit of the Aston Villa captain may well increase now that the Gunners have sold Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona.

Wenger will be looking to bring in a player who can keep his first choice centre-back pairing Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker on their toes and Vlaar has the ability to do just that.

Vlaar played all seven of Holland’s fixtures at the summer World Cup finals.
