Liverpool are set to finally offload their injury plagued defender Martin Kelly, who won a sole England cap back in 2012…

The centre-back, who is equally comfortable on the right of defence, famously travelled with England for the Euro 2012 competition ahead of legendary Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, although he didn’t make an appearance in the tournament.

The Reds, according to the Daily Mail, will sell the 24-year-old to Crystal Palace for just £1.5m before the transfer window slams shut at the end of August.

Injuries have blighted Kelly’s progress to date, and he’s only actually made 40 league appearances in a seven year professional career. Last term, he only made eight appearances in all competitions, and with the development of Jon Flanagan (an England international himself, now) and the signing of Javier Manquillo, Kelly is surplus to Anfield requirements.

With Liverpool having Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho, Daniel Agger and martin Skrtel all competing for a centre-back spot, Kelly’s no longer in Brendan Rodgers’ plans for this position either.

Kelly’s physical and robust style will no doubt suit Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis though, and the move could be a chance to resurrect a once promising career.
