Manchester United have announced that Wayne Rooney will be the new club captain and take over the role from Nemanja Vidic.
Rooney was chosen ahead of fellow striker Robin van Persie – who was thought to be the other contender for the armband – and it hasn’t taken long for the Netherlands international to be mocked on social media.
