Liverpool will make madcap striker Mario Balotelli promise to be on his best behaviour before securing a £16 million deal for the Italian international, report the Star, as the AC Milan forward looks set to arrive at Anfield as Brendan Rodgers’ big summer signing.

The Reds had been hoping to put a ‘good behaviour clause’ in a prospective loan deal to bring Balotelli to Merseyside, but must now hope that he keeps his word to behave once they secure the transfer of the enigmatic former Manchester City forward.

Rodgers has been frustrated in his attempts to bring a top class striker to Anfield during the summer, seeing little progress on moves for the likes of Falcao, leading him to the door of Balotelli, a striker who is amongst the best in the world when he is not hampered by issues with his behaviour and attitude.

His frosty relationship with former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, that saw them clash during a pre-season friendly in the USA, as well as teammates including Micah Richards, marred a spell at Eastlands that did see Balotelli play a decisive role in City’s 2012 Premier League title victory.

Rodgers will be hoping that he can harness that talent in the same way that he was able to with Luis Suarez, a player who similarly courts controversial headlines despite his immense talent.
