Manchester United are set to make a sensational deadline day loan bid for AS Monaco’s want away front man Radamel Falcao.

Louis Van Gaal is set to make a move for the striker after becoming worried about the fitness of star striker Robin Van Persie. It seems inevitable that the Dutch front man will need surgery on his knee at some point in the season, meaning United would be without one of their main men for a large part of the season. In a worst case scenario, Van Persie may never return to his prolific best, leaving the Red Devils looking weak up front.

Even if Van Persie manages to stay fit, Van Gaal will need to sign another striker with Javier Hernandez set to leave Old Trafford.

Reports suggest that United have agreed to loan Hernandez to Madrid, with the deal set to be completed once the Mexican agrees personal terms with the Spanish giants.

It is also possible that Danny Welbeck could leave for Tottenham before the transfer window closes, meaning the Red Devils will need at least one attacking reinforcement. That could well be Falcao.

The former Atletico Madrid man has been desperate to leave Monaco all summer long and move to one of Europe’s top clubs. Although United aren’t in the Champions League this season, a move to Old Trafford would interest the Columbian striker as the Red Devil’s have the type of pedigree that Falcao is looking for.

Due to Falcao’s desire to leave Monaco, the French club are willing to let the striker go if a club pay £20 million for a year long loan. That shouldn’t be a problem for big spending United, who are desperate to add quality to their squad no matter what the cost.

While the Red Devils are not the only club looking to sign Falcao, they are fast becoming the favourites with Real Madrid, who have had a long term interest in the Columbian,  set to solve their lack of strikers by signing Hernandez.
