Oliver Bierhoff, technical director of the German national team, has criticised Real Madrid over their treatment of Sami Khedira’s thigh injury, believing the Spanish giants didn’t take the issue seriously enough.

While Los Blancos said that Khedira had injured his thigh with the German national team, Bierhoff claims that Madrid new about the injury before they released the midfielder for international duty.

“The player already had problem when he travelled to Germany,” the 46-year-old former striker was quoted by Goal.

“And what’s more, he had already been examined by doctors in Madrid. They didn’t consider it to be a serious injury!

“After that, Khedira decided to consult a reliable doctor here [and he] diagnosed a muscle tear.”

Khedira, who helped Germany win the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, will now be out of action for up to eight weeks.

The midfielder was reportedly close to leaving the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu during the summer with several Premier League clubs reportedly interested in his services – including Arsenal. However, he was persuaded to stay by manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Although he has remained in the Spanish capital, the German midfielder is still unlikely to get much first team football, with the Italian coach set to use Luka Modric and Toni Kroos as his first choice pairing in midfield.
