Welbeck was seemingly not part of Louis van Gaal’s first team plans, this despite the striker completing his most prolific season to date last term.
Despite Man United’s failings under former boss David Moyes Welbeck netted nine goals in 25 Premier League appearances, of which ten were from the bench.
Man United also loaned out Javier Hernandez to Real Madrid, the Mexican also not a player Louis van Gaal appeared to value, whilst the Old Trafford side forked out over £150m on new signings.
