Speaking at his Friday press conference, the Gunners boss gave some positive news on the fitness of his squad, and none more so than the news that Debuchy will not necessarily miss a whole three months of football.

The French international, a summer signing from Newcastle United, has performed well since arriving at the Emirates Stadium as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, and his absence could leave Arsenal short of options at the back.

Calum Chambers can play as a right-back, but has also been brought in for his ability to play centrally, acting as the only available backup to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny at the moment.

Still, the former Southampton man may not need to fill in on the right for too long if Debuchy’s injury turns out not to be as bad as initially feared, with Wenger quoted as saying it would be six weeks without surgery and three months with surgery.
