The Dutchman played under Louis van Gaal at this summer’s World Cup and although he was full of praise for the former Barcelona boss, he admitted a move to United didn’t tempt him.

He said: ”Louis is one of the most intelligent men in football – and I knew of Manchester United’s interest in the summer.

”It was flattering – but I am very happy in Turkey – and it is very hard to leave Champions League football.”

The ex- Inter Milan star has been linked with a move to Old Trafford on several occasions with former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson known to have admired the 30-year-old.

Unfortunately, a move to the Theatre of Dreams now appears highly unlikely as United have several options in Sneijder’s favoured no. 10 position including Juan Mata and captain Wayne Rooney.

Even though van Gaal failed to sign Sneijder during the summer, he did manage to spend nearly £150m on new players, including Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Daley Blind.
