The Portuguese boss built up a strong relationship with the 21-year-old during his final season as Los Blancos manager and recent reports have suggested that he is interested in bringing him to Stamford Bridge, possibly as a replacement for John Terry, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Varane was linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu during the summer having lost his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s first team last season.

However, he has started several games for Real this season and Mourinho admits that although he admires the Frenchman, he doubts the defender will be coming to Stamford Bridge.

“Everybody is talking about Varane coming to Chelsea because they know he is a player I like a lot but everybody knows that he will stay at Real Madrid,” the former Inter Milan manager said.

Chelsea have started the season in excellent form and currently sit top of the Premier League table having won all but one of their matches so far this campaign.
