Cech remains a target for the Spaniards in the New Year.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech is a January transfer target for Real Madrid as they search for a replacement for captain Iker Casillas, according to the London Evening Standard.

After 10 years as first choice between the sticks at Stamford Bridge, Cech has been usurped this season by the younger Thibaut Courtois and it doesn’t look as if the 32-year-old is going to be able to reestablish himself anytime soon.

Meanwhile at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, head coach Carlo Ancelotti is looking for alternatives to Casillas, with the skipper having severely dropped in form in recent times.

Ancelotti knows Cech well from the time they spent working together when the Italian was in charge of the Blues and therefore the stopper could well be tempted by a reunion in the Spanish capital.

Both AS Roma and Atletico Madrid have also shown interest in the Czech Republic international, but his agent Viktor Kolar has made it clear that Los Blancos remain the first choice.

Jose Mourinho is also likely to favour the deal as it would give him leverage in the pursuit of midfielder Sami Khedira, who is expected to leave Madrid in the near future having entered the final year of his current contract and has been strongly linked with the West Londoners.
