Brazilian wants to secure new long term Old Trafford deal.

Man United defender Rafael wants to pen a new contract though boss Louis van Gaal is still unsure of the Brazilian’s ability to fill the club’s right-back berth according to Goal.com.

The 24 year old has been in fairly decent form of late and has under two years to run on his current deal and wants to secure an extension on his deal as soon as possible.

Rafael has made over 100 appearances for Man United since moving to Old Trafford in 2008 but may not be van Gaal is unconvinced by the player’s ability to consistently deliver top displays and has apparently set his sights on Barcelona’s Dani Alves.

As well as Rafael the Dutch boss can also call upon Chris Smalling to play at right-back though he too has flattered to deceive over the past 18 months.

Man United invested over £150m on new players over the summer but may well feel the need to dig deep again in order to strengthen their back-line.
