Blues and Bayern favourites to land contract rebel.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich are believed to be leading Arsenal in the chase to sign Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira on a free transfer next summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The German international will not be leaving the Bernabeu this January after news of an injury sustained by key midfield player Luka Modric, which could leave Carlo Ancelotti’s side short of depth in this crucial position.
Still, with Khedira yet to sign a contract renewal with Madrid, it is expected that he will be heading for the exit in the summer as he will be available on a free transfer, with plenty of clubs interested in the 27-year-old.
Arsenal had hoped to sign him either this winter in a cut-price £5m deal or wait to bring him to the Emirates Stadium for free next season, but it is thought that Chelsea and Bayern are currently in pole position for his signature.
Both clubs already have plenty of quality in midfield but feel the prospect of signing such a top quality player for nothing is one too good to turn down, and it is thought that they will be the main contenders to sign him for next season.
