The England legend also revealed that manager Arsene Wenger was responsible for organising £28,000 of the money. The funds were organised after he had rung the Gunners’ former physio Gary Lewin to tell him he wasn’t feeling well.

Now the full time England national team physio, Lewin was worried that the former Tottenham player was suffering from pneumonia and told him to go to hospital. Wenger then agreed to arrange £28,000 to pay for his medical care. The North London club also paid £22,000 when Gascoigne had hip surgery.

“I rang up (Arsenal) physio Gary Lewin and told him I wasn’t feeling great,’ Gascoigne told The Sun. “He said to go to hospital as he feared it was pneumonia. Wenger then agreed to arrange £28,000 to pay for treatment. Arsenal also paid £22,000 when I had hip treatment.”

The 47-year-old also revealed that former side Spurs once attempted to charge him to watch them play. It was for their game against Real Madrid in the Champions League in 2011.

“I wanted to watch Spurs against Real Madrid and got told they only had two tickets for £60,” he claims. “I’d have to watch from under the directors’ box with some players who played 30 years before me.”

The ex-Rangers man had a spell in hospital after being sectioned under the Mental Health Act in October. However, he is now on the mend and says that there is nothing wrong with him unless he starts drinking again.
