Icardi has been impressing in Italy and it’s believed that Spurs are prepared to meet Inter’s £28m asking price in order to land the Argentine.

Atletico Madrid, the Blues and the Reds have all been interested in the 21-year-old for some time, but as yet have made no approach to Roberto Mancini to try and sign the forward.

Icardi moved to the San Siro from Sampdoria in the summer of 2013 and has since been in decent form for the Nerazzurri, scoring 20 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions to date.

This season the South American has been particularly prolific with 11 strikes in just 17 games and it’s this that has attracted such great interest from the Premier League.

Tottenham are keen to add attacking support to their ranks with concerns over the limited options available to manager Mauricio Pochettino currently.

Although youngster Harry Kane has been sharp in the box, neither Emmanuel Adebayor or Roberto Soldado have impressed Pochettino and the Argentinian would be open to selling both strikers.

That is why he has turned to his fellow countryman in Icardi in a bid to look for more exciting prospects in attack.
