Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal has been promised funds to invest in his squad and with his attack seemingly being fairly effective the Dutchman will turn to fixing his leaky defence.

Interest in Portuguese centre-back Pepe is unsurprising given that van Gaal has at times been forced to turn to youngsters Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett this term.

Pepe would offer a strong experienced option though interest in Coentrao is harder to fathom.
The left-back area seems covered by big summer signing Luke Shaw and though Coentrao can be used in a role further up the flank that too isn’t an area that van Gaal is lacking in.
